Public and private sectors meet to increase tourism inflow through better safety and security

It’s not just about safety and security. That is definitely important, but what is also important is how the tourists feel about it. Do they feel safe and secure when traveling?
International tourism continues to grow, even if it has had its share of slowdowns. Over the past decades, it has helped in creating more jobs, infrastructure, development, and income - especially for many developing countries.
As the economic cycles move up and down, new challenges come along the way, and countries which prepare and take action, will benefit with the fruits of their labors. Both the public and private sector need to play key roles to do their part to improve the tourism inflow.
Countries like Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Lebanon are great examples of how the right efforts can help to improve the image of the country and make them the next travel destination for business and fun.
With key terrorism acts and related threats still present, improving security will help to improve tourism in any given place. Not only can it be used to improve the overall security in the region, but it can also be used as a key attractive tool to encourage tourist to have a safe trip.
The first International Summit on Tourism Safety & Security, happening in Malaysia from June 14-17, 2010, is about doing just that. With the theme, "Improving Tourism Through Improved Safety & Security Measures," this event will bring key organizations together on all fronts - the governments, the tourism private sector, and the security organizations. Much will be shared in relation with tourism safety and security and how different parties can work together to instill confidence in tourists from around the world and how that will boost the tourism industry.
The two-day conference will start off with a general session on tourism safety and security and will then break into three tracks - government’s track, a professional & practitioner’s track, and a technology & learning track. This will be followed by three focused workshops on related areas. The exhibitions will also showcase different organizations and products which support the efforts towards better tourism for all.
