January 15, 2012 Avoiding Immigration Problem in Indonesia Posted by asita.org
Immigration problems can be avoided with good preparations and knowledge of Indonesian immigration policies. Some important points that are needed to be given attention are your passport validity, blank passport page, visa extension regulation and requirements for visa extension.
The passport validity must not be less than 18 months because less than that your visa application for sure will be turned down since this is internationally acceptable immigration regulations. You can avoid this problem by always observing your passport validity.
Your blank passport pages must always be no less than 5 pages, less than that you have to apply for extension or apply for additional pages in your embassy in Indonesia and since some embassy offices in Jakarta are no longer able to issue passport by reason of busyness, the process is forwarded to another country. The embassy of Great Britain in Jakarta, for instance, has transferred its passport making process to Hong Kong and the processing there takes about 2 weeks.
Full passport pages, without any blank page to put visa sticker or immigration stamp is a problem that is better discussed with visa consultant. Taking out stickers of your old visas attached in the passport is forbidden and you can be imputed with quite large penalty around USD 1000 or more when you are about to cross the immigration gate in the airport and Indonesian immigration party find that out about it.
Preparing 8 of each 4 cm x 6 cm, 3 cm x 4 cm and 2 cm x 3 cm photos with red color background is necessary since they will be required when you take visa in the Indonesian embassy. Those photos must be original and not the result of scan.
Visitors who are using tourist or socio culture visa that is valid for 30 days or 60 days and need to extend their visa must submit their passport to their visa agent within 10 days before the visa validation date is expired since according to the new immigration regulations, for visa extension the passport must be submitted to the immigration office at the latest 7 days before the date of their visa validation is expired and for the holders of 1-year working visa, they need to hand their passport two months before visa expiration date, if they want to extend their visa for the next 1 year, since the process for work permit documents such as settling recommendation letters from certain institutions, extending RPTKs, working permits/IMTA, and to deposit obligatory money of USD 1,200 to the bank in order to obtain working permit, and to extend those documents will need a month or more. |
